The Bodegas Lecea - Cuevas de Lecea smells of wood, tobacco and liquorice. Elegant, tasty and very aromatic. An excellent wine to accompany red meat and stews which is best enjoyed at a drinking temperature between 16 - 18 degrees.

Cuevas de Lecea is a "cave wine" aged in the historic Barrio de las Bodegas in San Asensio, in the cellars of the 16th century Lecea family. The wine comes from old vineyards of the Lecea family in San Asensio, with low yields and great quality. Clay-limestone soils for an elegant, silky and expressive wine. A limited edition of 2,700 bottles named after our underground heritage.

Bodegas Lecea grapes are grown on 30ha of the winery's own vineyards, all located in La Rioja Alta, just a few kilometres from the winery.

Historic 14-metre-deep cellars with centuries-old caves allow for a constant ripening process at a stable 13-degree temperature. 

The winery stands out for its perfect combination of modernity and tradition.

It has the most innovative techniques (fermentation at controlled temperature, automatic pumping over...) and defends the traditional in terms of care and conservation of the wines; which are kept in perfect condition in the 16th century underground passages.

Bodegas Lecea works with the white varieties Viura, Malvasía and Chardonnay. In red, mainly Tempranillo and other grapes such as Garnacha and Mazuelo.

The vines in the Valpierre area have stony soils and are more than 600 metres above sea level, which provides the right acidity point for their wines. The lower sites such as Davalillo, Matarrucho or Camino Real are loamy and calcareous and give the wines special aromas and roundness.

The vineyards in the areas of Valdecabra and Villavacas deserve special mention. Almost 50-year-old vines guarantee a special quality, for the elaboration into Reserva & Gran Reserva wines.
