Maria José López de Heredia from Bodega R. López de Heredia works in a very traditional way. Both in her vineyards and in her winery, she cultivates the techniques of her great-grandfather. In keeping with tradition, she cultivates the local noble grape varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo in the vineyard and in the cellar for the Viña Tondonia red wine in Reserva quality. The grapes ripen in Haro, the capital of La Rioja, in a continental climate. The red wine Reserva matures for six years in oak barrels. Twice a year, Maria restacks the barrels and tops them with fresh egg white. She then fills the unfiltered red wine into the bottle. The wine rests for a further six years in the bodega's perfectly tempered cellar.

Vivid red colour and delicate amber shine in the glass. The nose catches fine notes of spicy sweet vanilla and dried redcurrant, blueberry and sour cherry. The refined Reserva is rich in contrast and fresh with firm tannins. It tastes very dry, serious and elegant. It retains its depth for a long time on the finish. The Reserva from Viña Tondonia is a great gift for friends of classic Rioja wines.

The Viña Tondonia Reserva is the ideal companion for a rich meat dish. A game stew or roast with a creamy side dish such as polenta. It also goes wonderfully with a Mediterranean starter platter.

The optimum drinking temperature here is between 16°C and 18°C
