Spanish wine from Asturias
Wine from Asturias - Discover the North of Spain
Asturias is a region in northern Spain known for its picturesque landscape and cultural diversity. Although Asturias is not one of the main wine regions of Spain, there are still some local wines produced in the region. Wine production in Asturias is small and concentrated in certain areas and grape varieties. Here are some of the typical wines from Asturias:
Sidra (cider): Sidra is one of the most famous drinks from Asturias. It is a traditional cider made from different local apple varieties. Sidra is traditionally poured from high altitudes onto the ground to revitalise the oxygen and create bubbles. It is common to enjoy Sidra in Sidrerías (cider bars) and drink it with tapas or traditional dishes such as Fabada (white bean soup).
Vino de Cangas: This is a red wine produced in the Cangas del Narcea region of Asturias. The Mencia and Albarín Negro grape varieties are typical here and give the wines their characteristic aromas.
Vino de Picos de Europa: These are wines produced in the mountains of the Picos de Europa in Asturias. The wines often have a special freshness and minerality that is influenced by the cool climatic conditions in the mountains.
